A sexuality is a definition of how you feel towards people romantically. This focuses on your feelings, thoughts, behaviours and attractions towards people.
It is a huge part of human life and plays a part in every day life and relationships.
Sexualities are diverse, unique and vary from person to person. It is a personal and important part of self-identity.
Sexualities also are known as Sexual Orientation.
Gay is an umbrella term for any person who experiences same-sex attraction.
It's used and embraced by the community and its flag is the most commonly seen when referring to the LGBTQ+ community.
A lesbian is most commonly a woman who is solely attracted to women, however some non-binary people may identify as Lesbian. Others may identify as Sapphic, which is explained lower down the page.
A gay male is most commonly a man who is solely attracted to men, however, some non-binary people may identify as a gay male.
Vincian is another term that is commonly used with this flag which describes the same-sex individuals attraction between males and male-aligning individuals.
Asexuality describes a person who feels little to no sexual attraction, however, they still feel platonic and romantic attraction to others. Many asexual people still lead healthy romantic lives despite not feeling sexual attraction.
Asexuality is a spectrum. Every asexual person has different experiences.
Aromantic describes a person who feels little to no romantic attraction. Instead of romantic relationships, aromantic people tend to form more personal and emotional connections with others.
A myth is that aromantic people don't feel love, which isn't true. Aromantic people can still love, and feel loved. They just don't seek a romantic relationship with another person.
Aroace describes a person who feels little to no romantic attraction and little to no sexual attraction.
This combines both Asexual and Aromantic feelings together.
Many people who feel this way don't need a relationship to feel fulfilled and instead focus their attention and energy on other things.
Someone who is bisexual is attracted to more than one gender. It is also inclusive of all gender identities.
People who are Bisexual can feel attraction to those across the gender spectrum.
Pansexual is defined as someone who is attracted to all genders, rather than one specific gender identity.
Pansexual people also focus a lot more on a person's personality rather than physical attributes. Meaning that they tend to look more for personality than physical looks.
Polyamorous or polyamory is defined as people who are attracted to having more than one partner in a relationship, consenting between all parties involved is extremely important.
Sapphic is defined as a woman or woman-aligned person being attracted to a woman or a woman-aligned person, It's commonly referred to as WLW (Women Love Women) in the community.
Polysexual is defined as someone who experiences attraction to some genders, but not all. Similar to Bisexuality, however, polysexual people may have a preference over the gender identity of the person they wish to date.
It's okay to be unsure over your sexuality! It's a very personal journey and choice for one to make. At the end of the day, love who you love and be who you want to be!
